This is a widely used variant of Liu Wei Di Huang Wan (Rehmannia Six Formula), which was first recorded in the 'Precious Mirror for Advancement of Medicine' (yi ji bao jian) by Dong Xi-xuan, 1777. In contrast to Rehmannia Six Formula (which mainly treats the Kidney), the therapeutic actions of this formula are focused mainly on the Liver to address Liver Blood deficiency and Liver Yin deficiency. It was originally developed in order to treat disorders of the eyes, with the features of dry eyes.
