This is a modern variant of Qing E Wan (Young Maiden Formula) from the 'Formulary of the Tai Ping Welfare Dispensary Bureau' (tai ping hui min he ji ju fang) (1151 CE), a compilation of popular and effective formulas that were used in the public dispensaries of the Song dynastic period. The original formula was a simple combination of three herbs that were powdered and mixed with garlic and honey to form large pills. It was prescribed for low back pain due to Kidney Yang deficiency.
