Inflammation is the body's reaction to physical, chemical or biological injury. Normally this process localises the problem and results in regeneration or repair of damaged tissue. Unfortunately this process is not always beneficial in some people, and in some circumstances can actually cause further damage and injury. There are many mechanisms in the body involved in the inflammatory response. Lyprinol® helps to reduce inflammation by inhibiting the action of enzymes involved in the inflammatory pathway called the LOX pathway. Lutein and zeaxanthin are carotenoids found in the human eye. The highest concentration is found in the macular area of the retina. The macula is responsible for central vision. Our ability to recognise faces, read, drive, see colours and contrast are all dependent on a healthy macula. They are also present in the lens. In the macula, lutein and zeaxanthin form a layer of yellow pigment called the macular pigment, which serves as an effective natural filter of the most damaging light (near-to-UV blue light) that reaches the retina.

Omega-3, omega-6 and omega-9 are the types of fatty acids found in flaxseed oil. Omega-3 alpha-linolenic acid and omega-6 linoleic acid are essential as the body cannot synthesise these. It is important for good health to get the right balance of these fatty acids. In western diets today, the ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 is significantly lower than recommended. Most western diets are high in omega-6(mainly from cooking oils like canola, sunflower, safflower and corn oils) and lower in omega-3.
