What it is
If you are unwell and need a certificate for work or study, an endorsed nurse practitioner from Nurse Practitioner Clinics Australia (NPCA) can assess you by secure video or phone, anywhere in Australia, without you leaving home.
Your nurse practitioner assesses your condition, forms a view on your fitness for work or study, and where it is clinically appropriate issues the certificate electronically and emails it to you, usually within the consultation. A certificate cannot be issued without a consultation.

Call our team and we will help you arrange a consultation. Appointments can also be booked online through HotDoc, and same-day times are often available. Consultations typically run for 10 to 15 minutes.

Cost & PBS
The consultation fee is confirmed when you book, before your appointment goes ahead. Have your Medicare card with you; your nurse practitioner will tell you whether any Medicare benefit applies.
Frequently asked questions
Is a medical certificate from a nurse practitioner valid for my employer?
Nurse practitioners are registered health practitioners and are authorised to issue medical certificates in Australia. Most employers and institutions accept them; if yours has specific requirements, check before you book.
Can I get a backdated medical certificate?
Medical certificates are issued on the basis of the clinical assessment conducted during your consultation. Your nurse practitioner will discuss the appropriate dates with you based on your presentation and clinical findings.
Can I get a certificate without a consultation?
No. A certificate can only be issued after a clinical assessment, so a consultation is always required.
