Gut & Digestion

Gut and digestion covers a lot of ground, from daily comfort after meals to keeping things regular. People look here after a course of antibiotics, a change in diet, travel, or a stretch of stress. Some want a probiotic they can take every day. Others want something on hand for the occasional bad day.

Probiotics and gut health is our busiest shelf. You will find Activated Probiotics Biome, BioCeuticals, Herbs of Gold and Designs for Health there. Strains and doses differ, and so do the storage rules. Fibre and laxative products cover regularity, while antacid and reflux products cover comfort after meals. Our digestive health range also holds rehydration sachets and nausea options for travel.

Matching the product to the pattern matters more than the label on the front. Tell our pharmacists what happens, when it happens, and what you have already tried. Some symptoms need a doctor rather than a shelf product. For a longer look at diet and supplements, book our integrative pharmacy consult.

Frequently asked questions

Which probiotic should I take?

There is no single right strain, and the choice depends on what you are looking for. Product ranges list their strains and the dose in billions of CFU on the pack. Some need refrigeration and some are shelf stable, which matters if you travel. Ask our pharmacists to compare any you have used before.

Should I take a probiotic after antibiotics?

Many people do, and it is one of the most common reasons customers ask us. Timing is the usual question, and a gap of a couple of hours between the two is typical advice. Keep going for a while after the course finishes. If you are unwell or immune compromised, check with your doctor first.

What is the difference between a prebiotic and a probiotic?

A probiotic supplies live bacteria. A prebiotic supplies the fibre those bacteria feed on, and is often a powder you stir into water. Plenty of products now combine the two. If you are new to fibre, start low and build up slowly, since a jump can be uncomfortable. Our staff can show you both on the shelf.

What can I take for reflux or bloating after meals?

Antacids and reflux products sit in our digestive health range and are the usual choice for occasional discomfort. Bloating has many causes, so the answer depends on the pattern and what you eat. Fibre, fluid and meal timing often matter more than a product. If it keeps happening, or something has changed, see your doctor.

Do you stock gut products for children and babies?

Yes. Several ranges make an infant or children's probiotic, including drops for the very young. Doses and formats are not the same as the adult version, so please do not split an adult product. Ask our pharmacists, especially if your child is unwell, very young or taking anything else. We can show you what is suitable for their age.

Always read the label and follow the directions for use.
