Immunity, Cold & Flu

Immunity, cold and flu is our busiest page through the cooler months. Families stock up before winter, before travel, or when something is going around at work and school. Some people want daily support. Others want the cupboard ready for the week it arrives. Both are worth thinking about now rather than later.

Vitamin C and zinc are the two most requested, in tablets, powders, liquids and sprays. Practitioner ranges such as BioCeuticals and Orthoplex sit alongside everyday brands like Swisse and Herbs of Gold. Our herbal supplements shelf carries traditional formulas, including the BioCeuticals ArmaForce range. The cold and flu range holds tablets, sachets, lozenges, nasal sprays and vapour rubs. You will also find rapid antigen tests here.

What suits you depends on your age, your other medicines and whether you are pregnant. Some herbal ingredients are not for everyone, and high dose zinc is not meant for long term daily use. Ask our pharmacists to put a sensible kit together. For a broader plan, book our integrative pharmacy consult.

Frequently asked questions

How much vitamin C should I take?

Doses on the shelf run from 500 mg to a few grams a day, usually split across the day. More is not automatically better, and large doses can loosen the bowels. Powders and liposomal liquids suit people who find tablets hard going. Follow the directions on the pack, and ask us if you take other medicines.

Which form of zinc do people choose?

Citrate, picolinate, gluconate and sustained release forms all appear on our shelf. What matters more is the elemental zinc per tablet, which the pack states. Zinc on an empty stomach makes some people queasy, so food helps. High doses are not meant for long term use, so check the directions. Our pharmacists can compare two products with you.

Do you sell rapid antigen tests?

Yes, we keep COVID-19 rapid antigen tests, in nasal swab and saliva formats, in singles and five packs. Check the expiry date on the box before you use one. Follow the instructions exactly, since timing changes the result. If you are unwell and unsure what to do, call us or your doctor.

Can I get a flu vaccination at the pharmacy?

Yes. Our pharmacist immunisers give seasonal flu and other vaccinations, by appointment. Eligibility and pricing change each season, so check the service page or call ahead. Bring your Medicare card if you have one. Booking ahead saves waiting, and the service page lists what is available.

What should I keep in the cupboard for winter?

A simple kit covers most households: pain and fever relief, lozenges, a saline nasal spray and rapid antigen tests. Add vitamin C and zinc if you take them. Check expiry dates at the start of the season. If anyone at home is pregnant, very young or has a chronic condition, ask us what to leave out.

Always read the label and follow the directions for use.
