Brain & Memory Support

Brain and memory support covers the products people use for focus, concentration and recall. Students in exam season, shift workers and people in their sixties ask about it most. Some notice names taking longer to surface. Others are buying for a teenager heading into a heavy term.

Omega-3 fish oils are where most conversations start, as capsules or a flavoured liquid. Herbal formulas built around ginkgo and brahmi sit in our herbal supplements range. Oriental Botanicals, Herbs of Gold and Metagenics all have a version. B group vitamins, including B12, sit on our vitamins A to Z shelf. A daily multivitamin covers the basics, and there are children's formulas made for younger ages.

Focus and recall have a lot to do with sleep, stress and what you eat. Supplements sit alongside those things rather than instead of them. Tell your doctor if memory changes are new or worrying. For a longer look at what you take, book our integrative pharmacy consult.

Frequently asked questions

What is in a memory and cognition supplement?

Ginkgo and brahmi are the herbs you will see most often, sometimes with B group vitamins added. Others are built around omega-3, and a few combine both. Strengths and directions differ a lot between products, so read the pack rather than the front of the box. Tell us what you already take, since ginkgo needs checking against blood thinners.

Does fish oil come in something other than capsules?

Yes. Flavoured liquids suit people who find capsules hard to swallow, and they are common for children. Concentrated capsules carry more omega-3 in each dose. Keep liquids in the fridge once opened and finish them by the date on the pack. Ask us which strength fits what you are trying to do.

Can I buy a brain supplement for my teenager?

Bring their age into the conversation, because a product made for adults may not suit. Children's and teen formulas are made in doses matched to younger ages. Some study products contain caffeine or guarana, which we would usually steer you away from. Ask our pharmacists before you buy, and mention anything your teenager already takes.

Do B vitamins have anything to do with focus?

B group vitamins are involved in normal nervous system function, and low levels are worth checking. That check is a blood test through your doctor rather than guesswork. If you follow a vegan diet, B12 is the one to raise with them. We carry B12 as tablets, chewables, sprays and liquids.

When should I see a doctor about memory?

Book with your doctor if memory changes are new, getting worse, or affecting daily tasks. The same goes for changes after a head injury or after starting a new medicine. A pharmacist can review your medicines and supplements for anything that might contribute. We will tell you when a supplement is not the right answer.

Always read the label and follow the directions for use.
